I am an author, multiple award-winning tennis mom, and mental tennis coach. I want to build a vibrant community where sports, especially tennis, would be the driving force uniting us as a people, as rugby was to South Africa after the apartheid movement.
I played various sports when I was younger and loved soccer, but my daughters (two beautiful ladies who love to travel, play, and cook) drew me to tennis. I fell in love with the sport shortly after I began playing with my husband. We ran, trained, and played on the court like I used to when I played football in college, so the switch came easy, and it was even easier then to get our girls involved and finally our son too.
But nothing prepared me for the shocking challenges in the sport when our first daughter decided to go one step further and aim for playing in a college like me, and thats when I realized the threat of some coaches back then and the unprofessionalism I was often confronted with, like one coach back then who impregnated a promising tennis star, a young girl who had the highest ranking in Nigeria sometime ago. I knew then that I would have to coach my girls.
Today, I’ve raised two kids who have won international tennis tournaments. It hasn’t been easy, but tennis has been a blessing. My first daughter, Crystal, played college tennis and won scholarships that paid the bills. My son, Jade, is well on that part, too.
There’s so much I’ve learned and much more I’d like to share…
